Raccoon brooch and toy crochet pattern, PDF in English

Should we make a reliable friend and defender, who would always stay near as a brooch and hug you tight and calm you down if needed with its movable arms? There is a typical good soul raccoon with a large and kind heart, hiding behind this little bully with big eyes.

In this pattern I give a detailed explanation on how to crochet a raccoon brooch. Many asked if it is possible to make a toy based on this description. That is why I’ve also included a description on how to make a safety toy for a baby (the raccoon on the right in the photo). As a matter of fact, the raccoon is made flat, to make the brooch I didn’t add much stuffing, and to make the toy – on the contrary. This makes the main difference (all other are explained in the pattern). I recommend to use lace yarn to keep the small size of the brooch. If you would like to make the toy, any yarn will do, depending on the size of the toy you are willing to obtain. I’ve used a 3-ply yarn to make both raccoons. The height is about 7.5 – 8 cm (~3 -3.14 inches).

This crochet tutorial is written in English (US terms) and contains 12 pages and 50 crocheting and assembly process photos, links to videos about assembly and thread joining of the arms. Skill level – intermediate.

Here is the list of what you would need –

1. Basic crochet skills: chain stitch, magic ring, single crochet, decrease, increase.

2. Materials:

• Yarn: all of the same thickness. I use 100% mercerized cotton:

Pekhorka Uspeshnaya  220 m/50 gr (240 yds/1.7 oz) in gray, black and white colors.

• Corresponding  hook. Mine is  1,3 mm (US size 10)

• Filler

• Black beads for eyes

• Black DMC cotton thread to embroider the eyebrows (you can use fine black yarn)

• Tapestry needle to sew the parts and a needle to sew on beads

• Scissors

• Brooch pin, mine is 2 cm

• Optionally: pins, stitch marker (I have a contrasting thread)
