★ SKILL LEVEL: INTERMEDIATE, you must have basic sewing skills
★ FINISHED SIZE of the toy is about 26cm (sitting 18cm).
★ MATERIALS AND TOOLS :
– I used furniture fabric (micro velvet) in gray, white and black colors. A gray piece 30cm high and 47cm wide will be enough, and if you’re cutting from a roll, a piece 13cm high will be enough (this is the height with allowances of the largest part). A white piece 7cm high and 20cm wide will be enough, and if you’re cutting from a roll, a piece 6cm high will be enough (this is the height with allowances of the largest part). A black piece 25cm high and 21cm wide will be enough, and if you’re cutting from a roll, a piece 9cm high will be enough (this is the height with allowances of the largest part).
Note: any fabric that does not stretch will do.
Note: if you are sewing a raccoon from a napped fabric, you can use a smooth fabric (such as satin) for the black inserts on the face, legs, and arms. The difference in the texture of the fabrics will make these parts of the toy more expressive.
– For the scarf, I used plaid cotton fabric (a piece of 12cm high and 38cm wide is enough).
– Eyes Ø7mm 2pcs.
Note: for an interior toy, both glue-on and sewn-on eyes are suitable, but if the toy is sewn for small children I advise using safety ones.
– Nose ~18x8mm. You will need a piece of plastic for the oval base part, hot glue, black fleece, black stretchy knitted fabric, see the instructions on pages 13-14.
– The head can be simply sewn to the body, or it can be made movable: T-head cotter pin (2х20mm – 1pc), discs (22mm – 2pcs); washers (2pcs). You will find a lesson on cotter pin joints on pages 11-12.
– Stuffing material (I used polyester filling, ball fiber).
– Black sewing thread (or floss) to embroider the mouth, pink sewing thread (or floss) to embroider the cheeks.
– Gray, black and white sewing thread, a needle, scissors, a sewing machine (you can do without it and sew everything by hand).
