Detailed and easy PDF PATTERN to create a crochet hippo!

Step-by-step instructions in English.

This is DOWNLOADABLE PATTERN, not the finished toy.

The file contains 16 pages with explanations and about 70 photographs.

Level: for beginners. Basic crochet skills required.

When finished, the hippo is approximately 15 cm (6 inches) tall if you take the same yarn

What do you need to work:

1. Yarn for body (I used Italian chenille. Color – mustard. Weight 600m/100g). You are free to use any yarn you like.

2. Yarn for outfit (I used mercerized cotton. Color – dark red. Weight 200m/50g).

3.Crochet hook (choose a hook according to the yarn you use). I used 1 mm hook

4. Black plastic eyes.

5. White thread for eye whites.

6. Light grey thread for nose embroidery.

7. Wire D=0.8 – 0.9 mm approx. 15 cm long for arms attachment. Using wire is optional – you can simply sew on arms. Wire D=0.5-0.6 mm approx. 8 cm long for tail.

8. Large eye needle for sewing toy pieces. Long needle for sculpting.

9.Hot-melt glue or other strong glue to attach eyes.

10.Stuffing material: polyester or synthetic balls.

11. Pom-pom maker. You can easily make the pom-pom using a piece of cardboard.
