Moulin Rouge is the most famous classical cabaret in the world. It opened its doors on October 6, 1889. The event was timed to coincide with the World Exhibition in Paris. The symbol of the Moulin Rouge is the red mill.

To this day, the cancan is the hallmark of the Moulin Rouge. He caused a wild stir in society: the audience felt anger and admiration, indignation and delight, but there were definitely no indifferent people!

Despite the fact that many residents of the French capital considered cancan a vulgar and obscene dance, and the “Moulin Rouge” had the fame of a brothel, they still regularly came to Montmartre to admire the coordinated movements of the dancers. The Moulin Rouge turned into a place where the show took place not only on stage, but also in the hall – the intoxicating and fantastical atmosphere that prevailed in the institution caused a feeling of euphoria among all those present. Writers and poets drew inspiration from the intoxicating atmosphere of the cabaret, the poor watched with interest how the urban elite was having fun.
